Georgia Southern upped their game for the latter part of the season with a very strong showing at Alabama and is now in the FCS Playoffs as the Number 3 seed. They will be playing at Paulson Stadium on Sat., Dec 3rd at 1:00pm ET against the winner of the Old Dominion and Norfolk State game held this Saturday.

It is with regret that I have some sad news to announce today near the eve of the anniversary of our chapter’s founding. Stan Puckett, ThK 261, passed away and joined Chapter Eternal on Thu., Nov. 3rd, in Macon, GA. Stan was initiated as an alumnus in 1986 and was one of the early members of the colony, but was not available for the charter initiation in 1970, so he was initiated along with 13 other alumni on November 14, 1986. Homecoming is upon us – just a few days away. The date is Nov. 3-6 with the matchup of the GSU Eagles against the Citadel. The Homecoming Fee Payment system is up and you can now pay your assessments and dues. The chapter will be managing the payments this year, will pay bills due, reimburse for expenditures, and pay the alumni chapter for any donations and dues paid to the alumni chapter.

Today we celebrate our founding. On November 17, 1967, our founders gathered to found “Nu Sigma” and begin the petitioning process to become a Theta Kappa Colony. Led by members of APO Service Fraternity (local) these gentlemen gathered to start what is now the Theta Kappa Chapter of Sigma Nu Fraternity at Georgia Southern. Alumnus Kent Hampshire, ThK 303, was recently awarded the Westminster Police Department's Valorous Service Medal, the highest honor at the department, for his efforts to apprehend two bank robbery suspects who were fleeing from the scene under heavy gunfire eventually leading to the death of both suspects.

Alumnus Mike Thurman, ThK 328, a past Rush Chairman and IFC Rush Chairman (in addition to many other chapter offices) received the City of Smyrna "Mayor's Education Award" for his work at Campbell High School in establishing a mentor program for 'at-risk' students. He was also honored as a "Principal for Day" at Campbell Middle School. Congratulations Mike!

Alumnus and Past Commander, Jim Walker, ThK 150, has volunteered to faciliate sessions at the chapter's LEAD Program this year. Jim, who owns a consulting firm in the Roswell area, also returned to GSU this past February to participate in the ritual team as the Marshal to initiate the brothers at Theta Kappa.
Brother Walker was accompanied by Brother Wray Upchurch, who attended the initation and re-chartering as well.
Alumnus Colonel Alvin (Irv) Lee, ThK 210, relinquished command of the 61st Corps of Engineers District, which is responsible for New Orleans and lower Mississippi on Fri., July 23, 2010. Alvin was the longest tenured COE Commander in that district since the Hurricane Katrina disaster and was faced with the mission of restoring public confidence in the district and providing "100 year level" protection of the area. Jeff Dudley has taken on a new role with the chapter - he has become the official - Sigma Nu Filmmaker. First Jeff converted the video of our House Dedication on Nov. 11, 1989 to digital format for the website and to preserve the footage then he was enlisted to film Regent Joe Gilman's 64th Grand Chapter address to the Fraternity. The Little family men: Lee (Dad), David (past Commander), and Drew Little (Rush Chairman) all went to West Georgia (Carrollton) for a weekend and spent time working with Theta Pi alumni and members on their house. It was a big work day for the chapter and they had a lot of people chip in to help. Alumnus Bill Geddy, ThK 219, just spent 10 days in Berlin for a software conference and a couple of days of touring. It had been since the fall of the Berlin Wall that I was last there, so it was interesting to see. I ate a lot of good German food, drank German beer, took a lot of pictures, saw the sites, and did a little business.
Thank to everyone who attended the Theta Kappa Spring Golf Tournament (Spring Fling) hosted by Jim Rawlins and Jim McBrayer. It was a great success and an even better time. Look for photos and videos shortly.

Alumni Tuffy Rawlins, ThK 30, and Jim McBrayer, ThK 5, organized and hosted the first Spring Golf Tournament in the Atlanta area. The event was held at Chateau Elan's Woodlands Course on Sat., May 22nd. On Friday night we went to Jack's for drinks, dinner, and the arrival of one late arriving alum. Local accomodations at the Holiday Inn Express in Brazelton worked out well.

The Theta Kappa Chapter celebrated is 40th Anniversary as a chapter in Sigma Nu Fraternity on May 10, 2010. We will officially celebrate the anniversary at Homecoming this year with alumni, collegiates, parents, and guests.
Five past commanders returned to GSU on Sat., Feb. 27th to be the ritual team for the re-installation, re-chartering, and initiation of the Theta Kappa Chapter. The Chapter had the option of requesting a ritual team from another school or reaching back to the past and finding 5 worthy commanders or alumni to fill the roles.

The Theta Kappa Chapter initiated 29 brothers on Sat., Feb. 27, 2010. The ceremony was conducted by 5 past commanders and was attended by almost 50 alumni. Additionally 2 members of fraternity staff and the Regent, Joe Gilman, attended as well.
We are now at Theta Kappa 730!
Theta Kappa inducted 31 candidates into Sigma Nu Fraternity during fall semester. This was the largest candidate class at GSU - the closest other fraternity was 10 away.
