Child literacy is a pressing issue in our nation that often goes unnoticed, all the while having an immense impact on our society. The link between academic failure and delinquency, violence, and crime is undeniable. The stats back up this claim: 85 percent of all juveniles who enter the juvenile court system are functionally illiterate, and over 70 percent of inmates in America's prisons cannot read above a fourth grade level. 75% of Americans who receive food stamps read at the lowest two levels of literacy, and 90% of high school dropouts are on welfare. Teenage girls ages 16 to 19 are also six times more likely to have children out of wedlock that the girls of their age who can read proficiently. As one can clearly see, illiteracy is linked to many of the most serious issues in our nation today. These problems take a great toll on the American public and cost hard working taxpayers like you more and more each year. Let’s do something to change that!

Reading is Fundamental (RIF) is a non-profit organization that aims to better our society through programs that encourage literacy and by providing school-aged children with books of their own. By putting books in the hands of child-readers, RIF is nurturing youngsters hungry for knowledge and passionate about learning. By increasing child literacy rates through the distribution of books and other educational programming, RIF is working to alleviate our societal problems linked to illiteracy, which in turn makes our country a better place to live for us all. Every $10 donated will put a book in the hands of four different children. Our goal is to raise $5,000 for Reading is Fundamental, thereby donating 2,000 books to kids in need. We can’t do it without your help!

If you cannot attend and instead would like to make a monetary donation to Reading is Fundamental in support of our Spring Charitable cause, you can do so at: www.rif.org/GSU. Your donation will be handled directly through the Reading is Fundamental (RIF) Foundation and donations are 100% tax deductible. There is no amount is too small. Please remember that a ten dollar donation provides 4 books to children in need, and that little bit can go a long way toward making our country a better place to live for us all. Let’s work together to change some lives!

Thank you for your support and God Bless,
