At Homecoming 1986 the Theta Kappa Chapter initiated fourteen charter members who were unavailable for the original chartering ceremony on May 10, 1970. That year we had phenomenal turnout for Homecoming and it sparked a growth and development of our alumni relations that culminated in the fundraising, design, construction, and completion of our Chapter House in 1989. These were some great days, our “glory days”, with a rare synchronization between the aims of the collegiate and alumni chapters. It resulted in the significant growth of both our alumni organization and collegiate chapter, the first chapter house to be fully completed on Greek row, and a run of outstanding, memorable homecoming celebrations - some for the history books.
Since that time we have had several other milestones, such as the addition of the deck, the pay-off of the original mortgage, the 500th initiate, and so on, but they have all seemed to be anti-climatic compared to that 5-10 period from 1986 and on. However, regardless of when you were a collegiate or where you participated in the alumni organization, each and every initiate of the Theta Kappa Chapter participated in the growth, development, and continuation of this great chapter and Sigma Nu Fraternity. In 2011 we have a rallying cry of the initiation of 14 alumni, but in 1, 5, 10, or 20 years we will celebrate another milestone you may be closer to, but for everyone this date is important!
In 2011 we will be celebrating the 25th anniversary of this memorable initiation of the 14 charter members and the mark the occasion with proper celebration, we invite all alumni to come to Homecoming 2011 to renew their vows with Sigma Nu Fraternity and celebrate the successes of the brotherhood that each and everyone one of you played a part in creating, building, developing, and maintaining.
For the remainder of 2010 and throughout 2011, we will dedicate ourselves to contacting each alumni brother of the Theta Kappa Chapter to ensure we are staying in touch with you, to update your information, and to encourage your attendance at this monumental celebration. We look forward to seeing you at upcoming events this year, next year, and at Homecoming 2011. Hold the date on your calendar today!
